I\ncould say that I was a part of the life of this Theater too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Many\nyears ago I knew his smell, I could feel his vibe, I knew his backstage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I\nwas an editor several times at the Mamaia National Festival of Pop Music,\nworking with the famous producer Titus Munteanu and a super cool team of the\nPublic Television.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Once\nwe moved the “camp” to Mamaia, we used to stay day and night to set\nup details, to organize, to make plans and timelines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n During\nthe day, famous singers and composers of the time got on the stage of the\nSummer Theater to rehearse, regardless of whether they participated in the Debut,\nCreation or Hit Section.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In\naddition to my work as an editor, the 1995 edition of the Festival had me as a host.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The\nhost of a show in which we had all entered with enthusiasm, but shy, and which\nhad turned into a phenomenon: Scoala Vedetelor \u2013 The Stars’<\/strong> School<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n We had been preparing since Bucharest for this first direct contact with the public and here we were trying the floor of the stage, its width and length, we were testing the stairs, the speakers, and even the descent into the audience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I\nremember spending days rehearsing in the sun. The bet won on TV a few\nmonths ago had to be won on stage too, in front of the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Success\nhad not gone to our heads, but it had made us responsible, eager to prove that\nwe were good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n As\na host, I used to try to build my texts in such a way as to be able to say them\nfreely and I was looking for unique presentation solutions \u2013 for one of the\nmoments I climbed like crazy the highest wall of the theater\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n I don’t\nknow what was on the mind of each of us about how the show will be, but clearly\nthe expectations were far exceeded!<\/p>\n\n\n\n We\nheard cheers after each song, we saw spectators dancing, we heard them singing,\nwe received the first frantic applause! On top of that, people laughed at\nsome things I said, although now, when I see the intros again and hear my texts\nand stuttering, God, I can’t believe it J)).<\/p>\n\n\n\n For\nus, those from the Stars’ School, this Summer Theater will always be the place\nwhere we got our wings!<\/p>\n\n\n\n (We\nhad another cool recital at the Festival, in 1996, when we were already more\n“riped”.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n I, for one, returned to the stage of this theater also at the Mamaia Pop Music Festival, this time in 2000, together with the host Dan Negru<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I\nwas still young, thin and wearing makeup, so those were my good times hihi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n DanDanaua\n<\/strong>of\ntheFestival (the hubbub) had that Dopo Festival been called, to\nbear a name appropriate for both the content and the two hosts\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n In\nthe middle of the night, singers, composers, organizers, journalists,\ndirectors, fans gathered in the Summer Theater (both on stage and in the\naudience). Accusations, praises, analyzes, calculations were thrown into\nthe arena. Well, mostly accusations\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n The\ntheater came to life through these Dandanale. And we would have stayed\nuntil the morning if the scene needn’t been rearranged, and we didn’t have to\nbe fresh the next day, for another contest night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This\nmusic festival in Mamaia has always been the moment of glory of the Theater, of\nthe resort itself. But the stage was always full here, with many summer\nshows, no matter if they were a mixture of humor and music, shows for children,\nrecitals of folk music or the so-called “\u015fu\u0219e” (a doubtable quality show), to which\nall Romanians used to go when they were on vacation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I\nhave heard that for some time the Theater had been closed and abandoned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I\ndon’t know when they closed it, I don’t know why they did it. But the\nnostalgia of the past pushed me to go to his area now, in the summer of 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I\nalways made my way to the theater through a communist shopping complex. A\nlabyrinth full of life, where you came to get yet another beach dress, a\nswimming coil, something to eat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This\nis what it looked like after the Revolution, as we knew it from our childhood. An\narea without great pretense, where you would come wearing a bathing suit and\nslippers and buy one thing or another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Now, however, the area is A RUIN!<\/p>\n\n\n\n Few things remained standing. Most commercial spaces are abandoned. One or two stores with products seemingly forgotten there by time are waiting for their customers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n On\nthe first floor of the complex, it seems that a family has even moved in,\nconsidering the clothes left out to dry\nand the gypsy music that ensures the good mood of those living there\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n Among\nthe neglected groves and stone swans from the last millennium, I arrive at the\nSummer Theater, witness to so many “performances” of Romanian artists\nof all categories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Suddenly,\nall my memories invaded\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n And,\nonce I got to it, I admit that I felt like a pain in my stomach. Had I not\nbeen salty from the swimming in the sea, I’d most certainly become bitter from\nwhat I see here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A ruin! I\ndon’t know how else to call this. A simply abandoned theater, left in\nruins, a center of entertainment on the seaside, completely buried.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The architecture of the Theater shows all the decay between the walls that are still left standing. The vegetation has grown among broken stones, the supporting cables no longer exist at all, and the small balconies where the lights were installed are on the verge of collapse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I\ngo to the entrance. Peeling walls are not even attractive for good quality\ngraffiti.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Santa’s\nsleigh is here, you know. In case you still want gifts this year, it would\nbe good to get some money and send it to a service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The\niron fence is fenced, which makes it impossible for me to enter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “Hello”\n\u2013 I say through the fence, seeing the shadow of a man.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Nothing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “Hellooo”\n\u2013 I raise my voice a little, to convince myself that I did not see a ghost of\nthe past, but the guard of the location.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It\nis clear that the man has never been bothered by anyone and I ruin his feng\nshui\u2026 He turns slowly towards me, without approaching, a sign that he will\nabandon me immediately, no matter what I tell him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I\ntell him that I want to take a photo of the theater, for the sake of the\npast. “I can’t let you \u2013 he answers me kindly. You must have the\napproval of the Local Council”. No shit!<\/p>\n\n\n\n He\npolitely invites me to take pictures of the Theater from the\noutside. Well, of course, they cannot do anything to me there, because\nit’s a public domain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n That’s\nwhat the facade looks like. On the frontispiece, the writing “The Palace\nof Festivals Mamaia” is barely distinguishable. “The Dust of\nMamaia Festivals” I think would be more appropriate\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n The\ncurrent appearance of the complex arouses my curiosity (and pain) and I begin\nto explore every side, every nook and cranny.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Between\nthe walls I see the chairs in the audience, over which some old pieces of iron are\nthrown, once decorative elements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n![\"\"](\"https:\/\/www.danamladin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/CNV000011.jpg\")
